Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF) in the old centre of Utrecht is an international festival for animated film, founded in 1985 and since 2009 an annual event. The festival provides a national and international platform for animation. It is a national and international meeting place and source of inspiration for animation professionals and rising talent and it promotes animated film as an attractive cultural leisure pursuit to all possible target groups. HAFF screens the newest developments, organizes competitions and presents thematic programmes and retrospectives, talkshows, masterclasses, debates and an educational programme. There are international competitions for features, shorts and web films. In 2013 HAFF launches the Grand Prix for Dutch animation and Dutch films can also compete for the audience award for best Dutch animation. And there is a competition for European student films. The organization of the festival is in the hands of a compact staff that is filled up with freelancers, interns and a lot of volunteers in the build-up to the festival. Director of the festival is Gerben Schermer. Committed professionals from the world of animation, film festivals and cultural events account for the board. Chairman of the board is Walter Groenen.
